Little & often is the key …
These simple guidelines apply to any surface in your kitchen, whether it be benchtops, cabinet fronts, sinks, handles, appliances …
- Wipe up spills immediately
- Clean gently, avoiding any abrasive cleaners or pads which might cause dulling or scratching
- Avoid strong solvents, especially around stainless steel benchtops/sinks
- Avoid bleach or harsh pipe cleaners, or splashes containing chlorine, as these could impair lacquered finishes
- Mask abrasive cleaners or descaling materials. A soft cloth or microfiber cloth is best
- Be careful with Magic Sponges! They can also dull some surfaces
In short … Soap, Water & Elbow Grease!
LACQUERED CABINETRY
The smooth-surfaced front and sides of this home wear cabinetry finish are easy to clean and maintain. Occasional wiping with a damp cloth or a soft sponge is recommended because the film is very scratch-resistant but, like all finishes, it will not tolerate sharp edges or hard scrubbing.
- Use a damp cloth for daily cleaning and a mild detergent if needed
- Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemical cleaners
- Do not soak cabinetry or expose to excessive moisture
BENCHTOPS
High-pressure laminate (Formica), engineered stone (Silestone) and granite benchtops are all durable surfaces, but proper care is essential:
- Wipe down regularly with warm water and mild detergent
- Avoid cutting directly on the surface; use chopping boards
- Avoid placing hot pots or pans directly on benchtops; use trivets or heat pads
- For engineered stone, avoid harsh chemicals and acidic cleaners
SINKS
- On a daily basis, rinse and wipe over your sink after use
- Clean with warm water and mild detergent
- Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals
- Stainless steel sinks: occasional polishing with a stainless steel cleaner will maintain shine
- Granite sinks: avoid abrasive pads; use a soft cloth
Don’t forget …
- The hardware: wipe handles and knobs regularly
- Appliances: clean gently and avoid harsh chemicals
- Keep cabinetry dry and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture
